Three most common stove problems and how to fix them

Stoves are the beating heart of the kitchen and the center of home life. Cooking is integral to everyday life so issues with your stove need to be fixed and promptly. You can always call the experts for the more significant problem but there are a few, common, stove issues you can troubleshoot yourself.

One thing to remember when working with appliances, especially the stove is to:

  • Turn off the stove and unplug it from the power source (gas and electric)
  • Use proper tools
  • Get help if you needed
  • Look at your manual for guidance on where each part is

Uneven heating

One of the most common stovetop issues is uneven heating. This issue can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as a damaged heating element or a blocked gas burner.

How do you fix a stove with uneven heating?

For Electric Stoves:

  • Remove the heating element or coil and clean it with a soft cloth.
  • If the heating element is damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • If the heating element is not the issue,
  • Check the stove’s temperature control switch, which may need to be replaced.

For Gas Stoves:

  • Remove the burner grates and burner caps and clean them thoroughly.
  • Check for any clogs or debris in the gas ports and clean them with a toothbrush.
  • If the gas burner is damaged, replace it with a new one. If the gas burner is not the issue, check the gas control valve, which may need to be replaced.

One of your burners doesn’t work

Another common stovetop issue and repair is when the burner won’t light. This problem can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as a clogged burner or a faulty igniter.
